Dear Gary,

Thank you for sending me the EFT tapes. After exercising on myself for a few weeks, today I treated a trainee who is going to take her exam as a counselor in a few weeks and who felt very anxious and self-destructive. The last time she did the exam she failed, and this was very traumatic for her. We went through the Basic Recipe a number of times and when she left, the anxiety was gone and she did not feel the stress of the coming exam any more. She enjoyed herself at the idea to prepare for the exam and looked ten years younger. It's a pity I did not record the process on video.

In the set-up process, it seemed important to me to look for the aspect that "made the difference" to work with. In her memory of the exam, she got difficult questions, then automatically she started to tell herself that she was stupid, then she got anxious and then felt physically paralyzed. We found out that she will not be able to avoid difficult questions, and we focused on the inner dialogue, for if she didn't do that, she would not have the other symptoms.

GC COMMENT: Excellent detective work on an important aspect. If you didn't get it during your session, it would probably show up as a problem in the test.

As an addition, I found it useful to use the NLP-technique called future-pacing to test for the results. Imagining an exam with difficult questions, she felt immediately able to say that she needed time to think, without putting herself under pressure.
