Hi Everyone,

Wendy Koebel had to overcome some pesky self doubts regarding her conducting a telegroup. Here is what she did.

Hugs, Gary

Dear Gary,

I wanted to write and share my experience with a telegroup I recently conducted.  I know on many of your videos you advocate for groups and for telephone work but as a traditionally educated and trained social worker it was hard for me to go out of my comfort zone and do sessions over the phone, much less to expand and do telegroups.  So what is an EFT Practitioner to do?  I tapped on my own stuff .

Even though I'm not qualified enough…

Even though the experts don't do telegroups…

Even though it will probably fail…

Even though I can't help anyone in a group…

Even though I am getting too far ahead of myself…

Even though no one will call in…

Even though it might be a success…

After tapping, I realized I had done many telephone sessions and many in-person group sessions so a telegroup wasn't really that far of a stretch.  I finally offered my first telegroup and suddenly I had 10 people RSVP.  I was doing ok until right before the group was to start and all the old doubts came back again.  So, I tapped on it some more.

Even though I have nothing important to say…

Even though I will probably make them feel worse…

Even though no one will call in…

Even though all 10 will call in…

Even though no one will feel better…

Even though I'm a horrible therapist…

Even though I am wasting my time…

After a couple rounds of this I was feeling better and knew that all I really needed to do was (as Gary likes to say) "get myself out of the way" and the group would be fine.  So, I tapped a couple more rounds.

Even though my ego is worried, I choose to be calm and confident.

Even though I feel this anxiety, I choose to relax and allow the words to come.

Even though I want to do well, I choose to step back and really listen.

Even though I might not have anything to say, I ask the Universe for assistance in providing me with helpful words.

Even though I want this to be a success, I ask the Universe to help me get out of the way so these people can feel better.

GC COMMENT: Some further power might be added to this process by breaking down the issue to specific events in the past where self-confidence, rejection, etc. were issues.

WENDY CONTINUES: Lastly, I did a couple of rounds using calm and confident.

Finally it was time for the group to start.  I called in and so did 6 other people.  It was a general group focused on eliminating worries, fears and phobias.  All six people had very different issues but what we found happening was that even though we tapped along with one member, who was studying for his medical exams, the core issues that we got to were also pertinent to the adult daughter grieving after the death of her father.

We had one member share an obsession with picking that she stated she had never told another person and it turns out another women in the group had the same secret obsession.  In reality there was hardly a moment when I didn't know what to say and the couple times I wasn't sure I went back to the basic formula until something more eloquent came to me.  Overall, I felt it was an amazing group and the feedback I received from group members supported my opinion.  Everyone made substantial improvements and all left with more work to do.

I have to admit I am now a firm believer that telegroups are in some cases more powerful than individual sessions.  In looking back there are a couple of key components that I feel made a huge difference in the success of this group.

The lack of travel allowed more people to participate.

Thanks to my tapping, I was able to let go of my need for it to be a success and totally focus on the group members.

The anonymity of the group allowed for intimate sharing in a short amount of time.

The power of the group and Borrowing Benefits seemed to magnify the results of EFT for each member.

In summary, it took me a long time to finally get to a place where I was able to schedule, market and run a telegroup.  I hope this helps others who are thinking about participating or running one, as I just wish I had started sooner.

GC COMMENT: Very nice!

Sincerely,

Wendy Koebel, LMSW, EFT-CC
