Hi Everyone,

Joelle Boucher from the UK provides an interesting version of The EFT Tell the Story Technique - The Workhorse Tapping Method that got to an important issue for her client. She instructs her client as follows, "I want you to describe to me how you feel now - as if you're writing about it in a novel and you're the lead character. You're at a crucial stage in the story and you have to let the reader know exactly how the character feels about this situation"

Hugs, Gary

Dear Gary,

I'd like to share with you a technique that I have been using for the past few weeks that has helped my clients to quickly get to specific underlying feelings. I will call it Writing the Story technique.

This client is no stranger to EFT - we have worked together many times with great success. However on this occasion she was finding it a real struggle to get in touch with her true feelings.

We were dealing with a situation that was causing her daily distress - in her words "it follows me around wherever I go." She reported that she had great difficulty sleeping at night, was constantly upset and tearful and felt drained by the whole experience.

Several rounds into the session it was clear that we were not making much progress. Having tried a number of techniques that usually give great results, we were still stuck - she could feel the sadness, despair and hurt but none of the words were taking her to the heart of her feelings - if anything they were highlighting her frustration and increasing her tears.

Knowing that my client has a passion for writing, I was inspired to try this new idea. I gave her the following instructions:

"I want you to describe to me how you feel now - as if you're writing about it in a novel and you're the lead character. You're at a crucial stage in the story and you have to let the reader know exactly how the character feels about this situation". Without a moment's hesitation, she replied "she feels broken." This was a wonderful breakthrough - we tapped:

Even though I feel broken... and the intensity dropped after just one round from a 9 on a scale of 0 to 10 down to a 4 out of 10. Two subsequent rounds brought it down to zero. We continued to use this technique for the remainder of the session after which she reported, "I definitely feel calmer - as though I've been released from all of my trauma."

Follow-up telephone call 3 days later:

"I can now think about this without feeling as though my world has come crashing in on me. I am sleeping better. I had a couple of minor 'moments' whilst out on the street and on the train when I saw something that reminded me of the situation, but my response was nowhere near where it used to be - I just tapped my fingers a few times and was absolutely fine".

GC COMMENT: Very nice. If remnants of the issue continue to show, it would be useful to go back in time to specific events underlying this broken feeling.  See Uncovering Specific Events - An Essential Concept Within the EFT Tapping Process.

I have since used this technique on 5 other clients plus myself with excellent results - to my knowledge none have a passion for writing but still found it easier to describe their feelings as though they were writing a story.

On a daily basis, I give my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to you Gary for bringing us EFT!!
