Hi Everyone,

Urologist Eric Robins MD shows us how he found several emotional contributors to his male client's inabilities in the bedroom. Panic attacks were also a concern and were lessened in the process.

Hi Gary,

This case report involves the husband of one of our nurses.  He is a relatively healthy 45 year old guy who has been treated for worsening panic attacks.  The reason he was seeing me as a urologist was because he was also having some erectile dysfunction.  His internist had prescribed him some viagra, which he took once and it helped, but he was concerned that taking the viagra would "bring on a panic attack," even though I assured him that this wouldn't happen.  Panic attacks are not a side effect of viagra.

He also knew that I do some mind-body work, and was hoping that EFT would help alleviate his fear of taking the viagra.  As we started to talk, I couldn't help but wonder why a healthy guy like him would have impotence in the first place.  I began to wonder if he was storing some old past trauma in his body, since keeping these traumas held deeply in the body uses up a huge amount of energy that could otherwise be used for healing, libido, or sexual function.

He denied having any major childhood trauma, but mentioned in passing that his mother was an alcoholic.  I asked him if there were any memories from his childhood that still held any emotional charge on them.  He recounted the following memory, and as he told it to me, quite a bit of emotional intensity came up (8 on a scale of 0 to 10):

His mother had been drinking all day, and he walked into the kitchen to find his mother physically beating up his father, and hitting him with a heavy pan.  The father left the house quite bloodied, came back a couple of hours later, packed up his stuff and left, never to return again, and never really having said "good-bye" to the kids.  As we tapped through this issue, we were able to remove all the emotional intensity.  The specific aspects we tapped on were:

1) my abusive mother

2) the sense of abandonment when my father left, how could he do this to me, he must not have loved us to be able to pick up and leave, then never contact us again, etc.

We also tapped a few rounds on the idea that, "I choose to be able to take viagra easily and safely without having any anxiety."

His wife came to work the following Monday with a huge smile on her face.  She said that her husband had turned into a sexual animal, and in fact hadn't needed to take any viagra at all the entire weekend.  At one-month follow-up, his erections were still functioning fine without him needing to take any medication.  Also, the intensity and duration of his panic attacks were much less.  And, the best part is that all of this took only about 10 minutes in the midst of a busy medical clinic.

Sincerely,

Eric B. Robins, MD
