EFT and a throat full of razor blades

Important Note: This article was written prior to 2010 and is now outdated. Please use my newest advancement, Optimal EFT. It is more efficient, more powerful and clearly explained in my free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™.  Best wishes, Gary

Hi Everyone,

Ever have one of those excruciatingly painful sore throats that feels like it is full of razor blades? Jann Barry, from Australia, had that experience but was completely skeptical about EFT's ability to handle it. She tried it anyway, with astonishing results. She ends her entertaining article with "EFT IS without doubt the single most exciting technique I have come across in the areas of health and healing - on all levels....but God I wish it didn't look so goofy." Please consult physicians on all medical issues.

Hugs, Gary

By Jann Barry

Some three years back I had a visit from a friend. Just as she was leaving she reached into the car and handing me a small book and said "Oh here, I forgot to give you this, I`m sure you`ll find it interesting as you`re into all this weird stuff." Don't you just LOVE your friends?

The book was the" Pocketguide to EFT" by Steve Wells and David Lake.

Later that day I was driving a Cold Infected friend to town when she was overcome with a coughing, sneezing fit. All I could think was that the interior of the car was now wall to wall microbes and that no matter how much I mentally checked my immune system and fed it positive affirmations it was a "done deal" that I would get her cold.

That night I took the book to bed with me. I can't remember how far in I got but when it started talking about tapping on a bunch of bits of the body while saying a negative statement I put the book down in disgust! "I don`t think so!" I said in disbelief and snapped off the light. The concept was too weird - even for me!

Around 4am I was awoken with THE mother of all sore throats. On a scale of 0-10, I was a 25 heading for 100. I sat up and put on the light and just sat there thinking "bloody hell" (we Australians tend to say this a lot), I've got that cold.

I don`t know what most people do when they have a really raging sore throat but I sat there making little gurgling noises and hoping the saliva would make it's way down my throat without me helping it along by swallowing.

Just then my eyes rested on THE book. Well, I thought ,what have I got to lose? So, picking it up I followed the bouncing ball so to speak.

First focus on the problem - well THAT was no problem, next rate the problem - yep a good 100, tap here whilst stating the problem - 3 times...ok.."even though I have this bloody sore throat that's like I swallowed a bunch of razorblades, I deeply...etc. Now tap here and here etc while stating the problem.."Bloody sore throat" - tap "Bloody sore throat" - tap and so on doing the Shortcut - once.

What now? Oh rate the problem again! Dear God this meant I had to swallow. I sat there gathering my courage to cope with the pain and then, very tentatively, I swallowed. Then I swallowed again and NOTHING! it was completely gone. Not just a bit better, not just on the other side of the throat but totally gone.

Well I did what any Newbie would do. I said to myself that I actually didn't have a sore throat, that I must have dreamt it. Well the reality was I knew I'd had it & that thought was just me in denial. Then I thought - well I'll sit here for 5-10 minutes and it'll be back. Fifteen minutes later no sore throat so I turned off the light and went to sleep. Next morning as my eyes flicked open my first thought was - bet it's back now, but it wasn't and neither did I get the cold!

So there I was this Grade A Sceptic, following the EFT technique that I absolutely didn't believe in, out of a book, and had become in that one moment - the Moment of The One Minute Wonder -
totally and absolutely hooked.

Now my days are filled with EFT. I use it almost exclusively in my Clinical Hypnotherapy practice, I teach it. Treating a girl that had been thrown from her horse and was in quite severe pain (diagnosed) we were getting a gradual reduction when, on the last round I said to her, "hey, an expletive may help & how about some forgiveness??" her face lit up...so we ended with "and I forgive myself and my bloody horse." Bingo! it was over, pain gone.

EFT IS without doubt the single most exciting technique I have come across in the areas of health and healing - on all levels....but God I wish it didn't look so goofy.

In gratitude.

Jann Barry
