Hi Everyone,

You may want to give this article by Shelley Hawkins-Clark to your opthalmologist. Shelley says of her client, "Her doctor told her one in a thousand will experience the blister disappearing and the retina closing up on its own. She wanted to be that one in a thousand and do more than hope for the best." and then after EFT she says, "Her next eye exam showed the hole in the retina completely healed and the macular blister gone. Her sight is much improved."

Hugs, Gary

Hi Gary,

"Evelyn," came to me with numerous physical issues such as allergies, teeth problems, stomach acid, asthma, general anxiety and, in particular, a macular blister and hole in her retina she wished to heal to avoid surgery. Her doctor told her one in a thousand will experience the blister disappearing and the retina closing up on its own. She wanted to be that one in a thousand and do more than hope for the best.

She first became aware of the vision problem during a church service. While looking at the priest for a few seconds she noticed that part of his face looked "caved in like an hourglass and the lines were all wavy."

Her doctor described it as an age related problem. As the macular blister formed, it pulled on the retina and caused a hole in the retina. Each time she returned to the doctor, he advised her she didn't need surgery, yet, and to return in 4-5 months. She was instructed to monitor for changes in her vision by looking at a type of grid paper. Changes would mean the lines could become wavy or distorted, for example. Her last exam before we started working on it showed a slight improvement and a reminder from the doctor that her chances of recovery were only one in a thousand.

Evelyn believed the blister and resulting hole in the retina were more likely caused by stress than age and that a new stomach medication she was taking may have contributed to the problem. Since she retired as a successful school music teacher, she had experienced numerous stressful events and newly appearing health issues.

A few months later she came to me. As her next eye exam approached, we focused a couple of EFT sessions specifically on the macular blister and hole in the retina. At first she experienced a decreasing waviness in the lines on the grid paper and gradually she noticed that she wasn't seeing the wavy lines as often in her daily activities.

We tapped on the physical aspects such as the sense of her left eye being "out ahead" of her right eye, events taking place around the time the macular blister appeared and her feelings about them. One specific event, the selling of her mother's house after she passed, soon after Evelyn retired, became the key leading to the issue behind it. There were numerous stressful delays in the sale of the house. She "couldn't control the situation" and wanted to "make it go away." In addition, a longstanding issue of her mother always having "the last word" dovetailed into it as well. Meanwhile, the freedom she expected for her retirement was slipping away with the stress and increasing health issues.

The key for Evelyn was realizing she "couldn't stand the not knowing," both in residual feelings of selling her mother's house and for the rest of her retirement years. The structure of working as a school music teacher for years had provided a safety net where in many ways her time was planned for her. The next session we tapped on the various aspects of not being able to "see what's ahead," feeling worried, not being able to control the circumstances, varying emotions surrounding the sale of her mother's house, echoes of her mother's "voice" of admonition and perhaps most importantly, deserving freedom, the choice of how to use her time and trusting herself in that.

Her next eye exam showed the hole in the retina completely healed and the macular blister gone. Her sight is much improved. Evelyn adds, "I don't see any wavy lines anymore when I'm using both eyes in my everyday activities (including reading). When I close my right eye to look at the grid paper some lines are still a little wavy (not as much as they were in the beginning). I questioned the doctor about this and he said that even the hole in the retina has healed, the rough edges where it healed will still cause my left eye to see some wavy lines when my right eye is closed."

Evelyn was happy with the results and as she desired, we have moved on to other issues for now, experiencing relief with her asthma, reduction in allergies, significant reduction in stress and anxiety, increased confidence with a sense of choice, resolving wounds from the relationship with her mother and a more hopeful and proactive outlook toward her retirement.

Ten months later, her vision remains healthy. Perhaps, if Evelyn desires, we will return to the remaining "rough edges" left from the healing of the macular blister at some point to see if these, too, can be completely dissolved. I love that the possibilities are endless.
