Hi Everyone,

Ken Botwinick reports on a client with a unique form of dyslexia. His write up is included below (including my comment interspersed therein).

By Ken Botwinick

I work at a high school, and the student newspaper was doing a story on My Practice [Ken's business], so I was working on a couple of teachers for free while a student reporter observed.

One teacher had dyslexic tendencies, but only when using a computer mouse! I had never seen any such thing before. She would flip the mouse upside down and backwards before using it, and thus could use it at full speed as you or I would do with it the conventional way. If she tried it the conventional way it would literally take her five minutes to move the pointer from one corner of the screen to the other and click on a button. The pointer would circle the button, but it was very difficult and frustrating for her to put it directly over the button.

I thought this would be a "one minute wonder," but it wasn't. After making some 90% of the progress with the basic recipe, we did some collar bone breathing and that seemed to get us to the next level. Then I remembered that people who have difficulty with right/left brain integration didn't crawl enough as a baby, when the integration first takes place. When I mentioned this to her, she said "Yes. My mom said I was walking in NINE months." So we did some cross/crawl exercises which come from my Touch For Health training. This improved things slightly, and we decided we had made enough progress for one session.

GC COMMENT: There are many ways to proceed when we don't get immediate relief with EFT. Ken chose to do some physical/mechanical things and noticed a little more headway. My leaning is to go for underlying emotional issues EVEN WHEN THE ISSUE APPEARS TO BE PHYSICAL. I do this with great regularity and often experience success. There is a parallel example of this on our web site which you might wish to study. It is entitled "Rachel's dyslexia and a problem with straight lines."

KEN CONTINUES: One interesting thing to note: When we were doing floor to ceiling eye rolls, this teacher's eyes would never go in a straight line. Her eyes would zig zag back and forth as they went up. By the end of the session, her eyes could go almost straight up without variance. She also had a very choppy motion when doing the 9 gamut eye rolls, even while following my finger, and these improved as well. So I recommend that practitioners always watch the client's eyes during the eye roll to see if left/right brain integration is an issue.

In conclusion, she could use the mouse the conventional way and move the pointer from one side of the screen to the other and click on a button in about 20-30 seconds instead of 5 minutes. I believe the cross/crawl exercise was integral in addressing the left/right brain integration. But if it weren't for EFT she never would have kept practicing with the mouse in the conventional way. EFT completely removed the frustration of the exercise that would have otherwise made her give up. It also removed the embarrassment of having this problem to the point that she let me use her full name with her testimonial in the school newspaper article and on my web site.

I hope this information can help other practitioners.
