Fears And Phobias

Flying

Can we collapse the fear of flying even when there is no airplane around?

Important Note: This article was written prior to 2010 and is now outdated. Please use my newest advancement, Optimal EFT. It is more efficient, more powerful and clearly explained in my free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™.  Best wishes, Gary

Hi Everyone,

Of course we can. Remember that EFT only requires that the client mentally "tunes in" to the issue. The real situation doesn't need to be present. I've done this for many people regarding the fear of flying and now Steve Rich gives us a classic example of how this can work. The ultimate test, of course, is when the client gets on the airplane. If intensity then arises, the likelihood is that another aspect is showing up. A few rounds of EFT should resolve it. Note that Steve is not a professional EFT'er. He is a school teacher.

Dear Gary,

I want to relate an EFT experience which I hope will encourage other EFT’ers to share their "new found" knowledge with everyone they meet.  I am a schoolteacher.  Two weeks ago, a mother of a student I taught two years earlier, came to see me.  She related a recent, "I'D RATHER DIE THAN FLY", experience where she had to fly from Utah to California to a funeral.  It seems that she didn't know she had a fear of flying until she got to the airport.  Two drinks before boarding didn't help.

When the plane took off, she hit the panic button and it took two stewardesses to keep her in her seat.  One stewardess sat by her the whole trip and had her breathe into a paper bag.  She needed to be driven home by car rather than take the return flight.

This mother now needed to fly to Florida, but couldn't even get herself to THINK about being on an airplane.  She said to me, "When I met with you in a parent-teacher conference about all my son's problems, you said that you knew of a procedure which might help, and you gave me a website to go to. (www.emofree.com). I never looked up the website and I have forgotten what you called the procedure.  Do you think it could help me fly again?"  I told her that I thought so and if she would like, I would be happy to introduce her to EFT to help resolve her flying phobia.

We tapped through the short version twice with Even though I panicked when I flew to California … and even though I am panicked about the thought of flying to Florida

Her level of distress on a scale of 0 to 10 went from 10 to 2.  We did another couple of rounds using Patricia Carrington's Choices method and her number went to zero.

At Gary's Denver workshop, he stressed the fact that you have to TEST.  So, I had this mother close her eyes and try to relive the California trip experience.  Her number came back to a 2 out of 10.  We tapped again and it returned to zero.  No matter how hard she tried to get emotional about flying after that, she could not get any intensity.  She left crying with joy and tearfully kept saying over and over ... thank you, thank you, thank you.

Follow-Up

After I worked with this mother, she got on the internet and bought her ticket to Florida.  However, the afternoon before she was to fly she came to see me again and said that she was at home packing a few things when she started to get an "uneasy" feeling and wanted me to work with her one more time.

I had her run a movie from getting up the next morning, packing, traveling to the airport, going through security, getting on the airplane, taking off, landing, etc.  We stopped and tapped on packing, traveling to the airport, sitting down on the plane, pulling away from the terminal, and taking off.  She said she was fine.

Ten days later she returned looking great.  She said she had to change planes in Dallas and so had to go through an extra take off and landing.  She was almost jumping up and down as she related how she made the entire trip "with absolutely no fear or anxiety at all".  She excitedly said, "I'm ready to fly again tomorrow.  You've saved my life."  I happily explained that it wasn't me, EFT helped her THROUGH me.  EFT works.
