Hi Everyone,

Is your child afraid of flying? Read this article by Sandra Lewis from Canada to get a solid idea of EFT's effectiveness for this challenge. Sandra says, "We proceeded to investigate what it was about planes that scared Anna. She told me she didn't trust the pilots. So we tapped on that. She was worried about the noise on takeoff because a friend had told her it was very noisy. We tapped for that. We tapped for her fear of being trapped in a crowded plane, or between people."

Hi Gary,

I'm an EFT practitioner in Toronto working with a variety of people on just about every issue. But one of the real joys of my work is using EFT with children and pre-teens. Instead of a lifetime of struggle, they have this wonderful opportunity to let go of existing fears and traumas at a relatively young age. Plus they learn that they have the power to change how they interact with the world. What a great gift!

I've been working with a delightful young girl, Anna, who is 12. We've worked through several other issues, and her mother brought her in recently to work on her greatest phobia, a fear of flying. The family, (parents and two young girls) have wanted to go away somewhere warm for March school break for several years now. But they couldn't get Anna anywhere near the airport, let alone a plane.

We decided to devote a session to this problem. Anna's mother was present during the session because it makes Anna feel more comfortable to have her there PLUS her mom can continue to work with her at home. We proceeded to investigate what it was about planes that scared Anna. She told me she didn't trust the pilots. So we tapped on that. She was worried about the noise on takeoff because a friend had told her it was very noisy. We tapped for that. We tapped for her fear of being trapped in a crowded plane, or between people. After about 45 minutes, we had methodically tapped our way through all the specific fears she could muster with regard to planes.

Then I gave her and her mom some EFT statements to work with at home and encouraged them to add anything new that might come up as a result of those statements. Today I received the following wonderful email from Anna's mom:

Hi Sandra,

Just wanted to give you an update on Anna and her fear of flying.  Well, she actually got on a plane Sunday - and handled it beautifully!  We decided to take a short trip "trial flight" from Toronto to London, Ontario.  I wanted to be sure she was okay with flying, before I bought tickets for our trip to the Caribbean.  After her last appointment with you, she and I would do tapping each evening.  After a few nights, she said she didn't want to do EFT anymore and she felt okay about flying.  I was not convinced, so continued to do EFT surrogate (have been reading about this with the EFT newsletters).  Plus, I did EFT on myself for my own nervousness about planes.

On the day of the flight, she did fine.  Two moments arose when I thought she would lose it.  First, when we drove into airport and she saw the planes (I did surrogate EFT while she was losing it in the car.) Second, walking from the check-in to the plane to board... she started crying and saying "I can't do it."  I convinced her to get on the plane, without too much commotion (Truly, this would not have been possible without EFT.

Before EFT, when Anna would freak out, it would be a full-blown panic attack with no hope of return to normalcy).  I was so grateful when she decided to get on the plane, despite her nervousness.  I know for sure this was due to EFT - she is no longer immobilized by fear.

Anyway, despite being a little nervous (but still talking away to me) during take-off, she was completely  fine on the flight.  Once we got off the plane, she said: "Let's take another plane ride!"  What a kid.

Sincerely,
Karen
