Surrogate EFT while in the dental chair - hygienist's eye pain relieved

Important Note: This article was written prior to 2010 and is now outdated. Please use my newest advancement, Optimal EFT. It is more efficient, more powerful and clearly explained in my free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™.  Best wishes, Gary

Hi Everyone,

Here's another example of a successful surrogate use of EFT. Carolyn Reuben mentally tapped for her dental hygienist's intense eye pain while the hygienist was working inside Carolyn's mouth. Note how she intuited appropriate issues for tapping. Please consult physicians on all medical issues.

Hugs, Gary

Dear Gary,

The dental hygienist was particularly unfriendly when she greeted me at the front desk for my cleaning appointment Monday morning.  No smile.  No warmth.  Although she isn't an effusive woman, she is a naturopath by training and an animal lover so we usually have lots to talk about together.  As she began to work on my mouth, I learned that she had been in severe pain for three days, since jamming her fingernail into her eye and cutting it on Friday.

Although I couldn't talk aloud, I began tapping on my karate chop point and saying to myself, Even though my eye is killing me and I am miserable with pain, I still love and accept myself.  After three repetitions I stopped my tapping and just imagined moving my hands to the standard EFT points on my head (acupuncture points are noted for fellow acupuncturists out there) (Baihuai), face (BL2, TW23, ST2, DU26, REN 24) below the clavicle (K27) and side (Sp 21).

I switched to another silent sentence repeated only in my mind: Even though I feel utterly stupid having cut my eye with my own fingernail I still love and accept myself, and began tapping my hand again.

"What are you doing?" the hygienist asked, her voice holding a mixture of curiosity and suspicion.

"Tchreating zhu" I managed to slur out between her knuckles and tools.  She said nothing further and I continued my work, imagining my own hands tapping on my head again.

"You better?” I asked as soon as her hands were out of my mouth.  She considered the question, and then answered, "a little."  Prodding for a number, I learned the pain had been at an intensity level of 10 out of 10 since Friday, and was now at a 7 out of 10 for the first time.  She thought that was improvement, but it was far too high for me to feel satisfied!  I went back to work.

I changed the silent sentence to Even though I'm angry with myself for taking so long to heal I still love and accept myself, and then I thought, maybe it's taking so long because she doesn't want to see something or somebody.  She was back at work on me as well so since I wasn't able to ask her who she was angry with at the time she jabbed her own eye so fiercely, I just assumed there was anger in her jab and switched to Even though there's someone I don't want to see right now, I still love and accept myself.

Lo and behold she reported her pain was down below a level of intensity of 5 on a scale of 0 to 10.  "Are you angry with someone?”  I asked, "Someone at home or here?”  "HERE!”  She said emphatically but by then she was done and I had to leave the office, so I kept working on her eye pain as I walked to my car and felt very pleased that for the second time, I was able to come to the instant aid of an eye injury sufferer with this amazingly magical treatment (see the EFT website archives for my experience at Kaiser's X-ray Dept ).

Best regards,

Carolyn Reuben, L.Ac.
