When golfers focus on the wrong target

Hi Everyone,

Jasmina Kovacev from New Zealand reminds us that golfers tend to shoot towards the object they are imaging in their minds ... whether it be the fairway, the green, the woods or a sand trap. Once you identify any improper imaging, you can tap to reduce the problem.

Hi Gary,

I’ve worked with a number of golfers and have had awesome results.  One major AHA moment for me was the conclusion that when a golfer says something is not a problem for him … but he is just aware of it … it needs to be tapped away.

Whenever a golfer was convinced that a bush or something else was not a problem, I knew he was actually aware of it and the ball often went right where his awareness was directed.  It is the reason that I often ask the golfer “Are you aware of anything in particular ahead of you?”

Even then it can be missed.  I follow the direction of his eyes and his observation and I notice where he spends more time looking (not just glancing over it) or if there is any facial expression while he is looking around.  I would ask again, “What about the bush?”  If I hear “I am just aware of it,” then we tap.  If I hear “What bush?”, then I just say, “Its OK, carry on.”
