Fears And Phobias

Claustrophobia

A follow-up on claustrophobia

Important Note: This article was written prior to 2010 and is now outdated. Please use my newest advancement, Optimal EFT. It is more efficient, more powerful and clearly explained in my free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™.  Best wishes, Gary

Hi Everyone,

At my recent EFT workshop in In Las Vegas, I brought a few volunteers up front, including Linda who wanted to work on her claustrophobia. I'm always looking for ways to test our results so I asked Linda, before any tapping commenced, what her degree of reluctance (on a 0-10 scale) would be to lie down on the carpet and have me pin her to the floor and press her arms to her sides so she couldn't move. With typical phobic emphasis she said "10." She wasn't about to do it.

So the group of volunteers (including Linda) began tapping for their phobias and, after 2 or 3 rounds, I asked Linda if she would like to lie down on the carpet and have me gradually pin her down (she had the ability to call a halt at any time). Apparently the tapping was taking effect because she readily consented and proceeded to lie down on the carpet in front of about 75 attendees--all of whom were strangers to her. I put my hands on her back and arms and she was "OK." As I began to pin her down more forcefully, she began to "get scared." We tapped some more. She relaxed some more. Eventually, I was sitting on her back with the full weight of my body on her and pressing her arms to her sides so she couldn't move. She reported she was scared but this report didn't have anywhere near the emphasis she started out with.

I let her up and she acknowledged a positive shift regarding her problem. I knew the job wasn't finished, of course but obvious progress had been made. In the workshop environment, I am demonstrating. I don't have time for follow-ups and the like because my goal is to do as much good for as many participants as possible while giving everyone a personal feel for the power of the process. All this for 50-100 people within one day's time.

In this case, Linda was kind enough to give me a follow up on her experience. Notice in her letter below that there is more to do but that our time together did have some noticeable and lasting results. Here is Linda's message.

Hugs, Gary

Dear Gary,

As always, your emails and cyber-energy are most welcome. I look forward to receiving both. Much has happened since you last sat on my back in Las Vegas at the conference. Life seems much 'lighter' now and I've been shopping for new carpet. Just kidding, but in reference to the claustrophobia, which is why I was on the carpet...on the floor...with you sitting on my back, I've had some very different and positive experiences since April.

Historically, I always had pressure-to-almost pain in my arms, shoulders, sides, and legs which would cause, just by nature, a growing, uncomfortable tension within my whole body when I was in particular situations. These included crowds, crowded elevators, sitting inside of a booth in a restaurant with someone on the outside of the seat, the inability to move forward i.e. in a plane, or when the food cart was blocking my aisle, etc.

I am listing these particulars because on my trip back east to Kentucky, W.Va. and then New Jersey, where I live, I encountered these situations as I had over my past 56 years of life, but....but...but...without the physical effects of pressure-to almost pain. I was aware of the changes. I still do NOT like to be in these situations (conditions)---psychologically, but the pressure is off and gone!

And so, although belated....I thank you!

I have incorporated the EFT along with my Reiki with clients and have effected some very gentle and clearing changes in the clients. I usually do the Reiki session first and then the EFT. Then I can either end with some Reiki or let "life take it's course." Anyway...this works. I'm looking forward to the next conference.

I thank you and again...I thank you!

Love, Linda
