Hospice care and EFT

Important Note: This article was written prior to 2010 and is now outdated. Please use my newest advancement, Optimal EFT. It is more efficient, more powerful and clearly explained in my free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™.  Best wishes, Gary

Hi Everyone,

I received this interesting use of EFT from Arnie Mazo regarding a preoccupation with death and dying. What occurred to me was the widespread relief these procedures could provide in hospices where people are about to "transition." Wouldn't it be nice to ease the death experience and transform fear into peaceful acceptance or even cheerful curiosity?

Dear Gary:

Just a short note on an interesting experience with EFT. I worked with a 75 year old gentleman who was very preoccupied with death and dying issues despite his good health. He complained of nightly sleep disturbance involving nightmares, a preoccupation with death, anxiety, irritability and depression. He is a friend and consulted me about his concerns as a friend and not through my clinical practice. I relate this matter to you not only because of the tremendous impact EFT had on this gentleman but also because this man would not have been caught dead (no pun intended) seeing a therapist about his problem.

As I said he responded remarkably well to EFT, reported feeling more accepting of his impending death as being a natural part of life, significant reduction in anxiety and irritability about this matter, and a more stable sleep pattern with no more nightmares. It has been approximately 5 weeks since this gentleman was first exposed to EFT and he reports feeling well with no return of his previous experiences (i.e., anxiety and preoccupation about death, sleep problems, etc.).

I think this gentleman appreciated the EFT process because it did not involve the use of conventional psychotherapy. He is a very down-to-earth man who made it clear that he did not want to get into the discussion of his feelings so EFT provided a tremendous alternative for him which resulted in relief. I still feel that EFT can often be supplemented, and it's efficacy enhanced through it's use with other approaches but here is an example of where it stood alone and helped someone who would not have tolerated a conventional psychotherapeutic intervention.
