A problem with Happy Birthday

Dear Gary,

As I was watching one of your tapes tonight, I was reminded of something. I suggested singing, "Happy Birthday" to one of my clients during the 9 gamut treatment. It immediately brought up an issue for him around recognition of his birthday, which was a big distraction from the work we were focusing on. Birthdays and holidays often being difficult times, now I always just say, "Hum a few notes" and demonstrate with the opening bar of Beethoven's Fifth. People use that or whatever and it always seems neutral. Just thought I'd share.

Hugs to you,

Jeff Bakeley, MSS LCW

GC Comment: Thanks for this, Jeff. This is a good point. Although I've never knowingly had this problem, the potential is certainly there for an emotional link to ANY song.
