Using EFT in a pediatric dental office for sensitive gag reflex

Important Note: This article was written prior to 2010 and is now outdated. Please use my newest advancement, Optimal EFT. It is more efficient, more powerful and clearly explained in my free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™.  Best wishes, Gary

Hi Everyone,

Here's a brief and practical use of EFT by dental hygienist, Liz Paris. Although her example has a dental focus, you can draw parallels from it for many other uses.

Hugs, Gary

Gary, I really appreciate your newsletters and all you do with spreading your gift to the world. Since being introduced to EFT it has been such a beneficial tool for me in all aspects of my life.

I work as a dental hygienist in a very busy pediatric dental office and one of the aspects of the appointment that many children have a problem with are the intra oral x-rays.

Many of my patients have a sensitive gag reflex and hate having these items put in their mouths. So, when I see the look of concern on their faces I ask them if they are really nervous or if the issue is just that these x-rays make them gag. If it is the latter I address it with a quick partial round of EFT telling them that I hate to gag too and that I am going to just tap on a couple of "special spots" that will help them not to gag.

I then tap the top of their head and say something like "I hate gagging, don't you?"

EB - I don't like to gag
SE - Gagging stinks
UE - I hate to gag
CB - I hate gagging

I then proceed to put the x-ray in their mouth and almost all of the time they are fine - no gagging. I then do it again before I take the x-ray on the other side. This has worked beautifully for me.

When a child is really nervous about gagging then I have them repeat after me while I tap a few of the "special spots".

Top of head - I am so nervous about gagging
EB- I hate gagging
SE-This makes me sooo nervous
UE- I am so nervous I am going to gag
CB- (and for an older child) I am really nervous I am going to puke (or lose my lunch or whatever I think is appropriate)

And I repeat the sequence again if needed. This usually takes less than 30 seconds and many of the children think it is really cool. I tell them to try it whenever they feel bad about anything.

Thanks again for sharing EFT with the world. It has been fantastic.
