Warming up to "cold calls" with EFT

Important Note: This article was written prior to 2010 and is now outdated. Please use my newest advancement, Optimal EFT. It is more efficient, more powerful and clearly explained in my free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™.  Best wishes, Gary

Note: This article assumes you have a working knowledge of EFT. Newcomers can still learn from it but are advised to peruse our Free Gold Standard (Official) EFT Tutorial™ for a more complete understanding.

Hi Everyone,

Salespeople could be far more successful if they were comfortable making cold calls. Suzanne Lerner gives her views on how this could happen using EFT.

Hugs, Gary

By Suzanne ib Lerner, PhD

As all sales people know, cold calls involve calling up potential contacts who are often strangers to us.  With everyone so busy these days, there is the possibility that the person will be unresponsive, annoyed, or even rude to what they see as an intrusion upon their time.  Yet to get our work out to a broader audience, many of us need to make such cold calls.

Unfortunately, too many of us procrastinate, fearing being rejected or feeling stupid somehow.  And the truth is, it really does takes courage and a positive attitude to successfully make contact with those who can potentially support our work.

There certainly are things we would like to do, if only we could get up the nerve.  Whether it's calling potential referral sources, getting an article in the local paper about our work, or seeing if we can make a presentation at a local center, we just keep putting it off.  This is where EFT can be a fabulous tool.  It helps calm our fears of rejection, takes the shake out of our voice, and allows us to think straight, so that we can come across as clear, calm and confident.  This allows us to make genuine, successful connections.  After all, they need us as much as we need them.  But they can't know that until we let them know what we have to offer!

I love helping people get over their limiting beliefs and fears of success.  Each one of us has something unique and special to offer in this world.  Even though our beliefs from childhood can seem very powerful, there are examples in every field of individuals overcoming extremely limiting beliefs, even being told that what they want to do is impossible, yet still they succeed.  "You can't possibly graduate college, you're deaf and blind."  (Helen Keller, Harvard University Graduate)

"You can't get your own show on TV, you're a woman, not to mention an African-American woman." (Oprah Winfrey, television host, media mogul & philanthropist.)

"You want to be a female ballet dancer?  Forget it!  You're almost six feet tall". (Five foot ten Judith Jamison, principle dancer for the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater)

Whatever your seeming stumbling blocks or limitations, they can be overcome.  As Goethe expressed it: "Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it.  Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. "  And remember... "There is a vitality, a life-force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique."  (Martha Graham)  In fact, "You are as unique as your fingerprint." (Milton Erickson)

Here are some tapping sequences, to help you on your way:

Even though I'm afraid to make this call…

Even though they may not even be interested…

Even though I'm afraid I'm not good enough, and they'll know it, the second they hear me, I choose to know that these are just old limiting beliefs, that need to be cleared.

EB: I'm scared to make this call

SE: What if they don't want to talk to me?

UE: I'm just not ready yet

UN: What if I don't know what to say?

CH: What if I make a mistake?

CB: I couldn't stand the humiliation

UA: It's better not to call at all

TH: I just would rather avoid this whole thing!

Even though I'm nervous about getting my work out in the world…

Even though if I don't try, I can never succeed, I still choose to love and accept myself, whether I succeed or not.

Even though this is taking a big risk, and they MIGHT reject me, I choose to love and accept myself, whether they respond well or not.

EB: I can't control how they respond

SE: I want them to like me!

UE: I want them to respond enthusiastically

UN:  But they may be indifferent, or even rude!

CH: Then again, they may just be having a bad day

CB:  It may have nothing to do with me

UA:  I can't know unless I try

TH: As they say: Nothing ventured, nothing gained..I know I can do this!

Even though I'm nervous about making this call, I can practice with a friend or a tape recorder first.

Even though I'm not sure if I can do this right, I trust that it is a skill that I can get better and better at, and I deeply love and honor myself for taking the first few steps.

Even though some of the people may not be interested, I know if I keep trying, I will find people who are interested!

EB: I'm a little nervous, but that's okay

SE: This is a skill that gets better with practice, like anything else

UE: I am visualizing someone responding with interest and enthusiasm to my call

UN: "Funny," they say, "Perfect timing!  We were just saying we needed someone to interview on this subject."

CH: Or "Well I don't have any need of that at the moment, but let me give you ____'s tel. #, He could really use just what you are offering."

CB: I don't have to be Perfect to be a success

UA: I'm feeling better about this already!

TH: It feels good to be able to share my gifts, and find people who are interested.

EB: I am so proud of myself for facing my fears

SE: It's really not all that bad - just step by step

UE: The more people I call, the greater chances I have of getting a yes

UN: If one person says no, I can look elsewhere

CH: I love the way I'm developing more skills and confidence!

CB:  This feels good!

UA: I can find a variety of ways to share my gifts

TH: I really have something worth sharing!

As with all EFT, if you feel resistance to some of the phrases, tap on the "yes buts" or rephrase them, so that they better fit the areas where you feel most challenged.  It can sometimes be helpful to work with an EFT Practitioner, who can custom fit the EFT phrases to your particular situation.  I know for myself, my childhood limiting beliefs can be so much a part of my view, that I sometimes need someone else to spot them and point them out to me.  That's one of the reasons it's so great to be part of this growing EFT Community.

GC COMMENT: Another helpful approach is to list the various rejections (specific events) in your life and use EFT to reduce or eliminate their impact. That way you won't "replay them in the background" when making a cold call.

Blessings on Your Healing Journey!
